The #1 Goal of Central Kids Ministries

Central Kids: We exist to help you take Christ to the center of your child's heart.

The #1 Goal of Central Kids Ministries

Have you ever been side tracked before? You started doing something really important, then before you knew it, you were distracted. That’s not good. You wasted an hour, a trip, or even a day. Doing the wrong thing stinks. If that is true, then we want to make sure we are doing the right thing in our kids’ ministry.

Our children’s souls are at stake. We want to be sure we are doing the right thing every single time the kids at Central Baptist Church get together.

The one thing that needs to happen at every single weekly meeting and every single kids’ event is this: Christ needs to be taken to the center of every child’s heart.

Taking Christ to the center of our children’s hearts

Now that’s an abstract concept, isn’t it? Let’s break it down by answering 3 questions:

(1) What’s your spiritual heart?

(2) What does it mean that you have a center in your heart?

(3) Why does Christ need to be in the center of your heart?

What’s your spiritual heart?

I’m not talking about the flesh and blood organ that goes thump, thump in your chest. I’m talking about your spiritual heart. Your spiritual heart is the home of your desires.

You want things to happen. You desire something every single day. Every moment your heart is captivated by something. You are glued to some activity. You find yourself wanting to drop everything and go do something else. These are desires and wants. They happen in your spiritual heart.

This is basic to human existence. Everyone wants things and experiences. But if you’ll take a moment to evaluate your desires, you will find that one thing seems to take priority. The desire that motivates you the most is in the center of your heart.

What does it mean that you have a center in your heart?

The center of your heart is for those things, people, or experiences that you want the most. Here are 3 questions to help you identify what is in the center of your heart. Do you drop everything so you can get it? Does your schedule always bend for it? Are you able to say no to almost everything else so you can get it? If so, that person, experience, or thing may be in the center of your heart.

Your desires can quickly become unhealthy. They turn bad when the wrong thing is at the center of your heart. You begin dropping important obligations and responsibilities so you can get this thing. This is called an idol of the heart. It’s unhealthy and can destroy your family.

So the remedy is to make sure that you are desiring the right things. If you are craving good things and experiences, then you will find yourself making choices that cause your family to thrive.

Jesus tells us that you should “love the Lord our God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:37). Therefore, God should be in the center of your heart.

I know that’s no surprise, but sometimes we just need it spelled out for us. God should be the ultimate person that we want to experience. Everything we do should be done to enhance our relational experience with God.

When God is not at the center of our hearts, we begin hurting ourselves and people around us. A person that is driven by anything but God will come to a depressing end.

Why does Christ need to be the center of your heart?

The only way a heart is free to make God its center is when it receives Jesus Christ as its Savior.

That’s so important, I’m going to say it again:

The only way a heart is free to make God its center is when it receives Jesus Christ as its Savior.

The problem of every single human being, including your child, is that we don’t desire God. We don’t naturally want to honor him. If God did not do something, our hearts would have something else at the center.

God did do something. He sent his Son, Jesus Christ to change our hearts. He did this through his death on the cross and his resurrection from the dead. All wrong desires were nailed to the cross and now we are free to experience the goodness of God. We are now free to honor and please God. What a good life that is!!

As your Children & Families’ Pastor, I will endeavor to make sure that everything we do at Central Kids is driven by this mission statement: We exist to help you take Christ to the center of your child’s heart. Once your kid embraces Christ and makes him Lord, they embrace God. If Christ is at the center of their hearts, they will grow up to be godly men and women that will transform the world.

What should I do now?

Do you want this mission to be your mission?

(1) Make our mission your family’s mission. “Every day I will take Christ to the center of my family’s heart.” Write this down and post it somewhere in your home where the whole family can see it.

(2) If you are married, share this post with your spouse. Is this mission something you both want to support and make happen in your home?

(3) Come up with one way you can take Christ to the center of your child’s heart every day and make a promise to do it!

Share the mission of Central Kids with others on social media!
